Captured through the lens of artist Lorenza Longhi using disposable cameras, this unique photo series offers an exclusive glimpse into the exhibition The Best, The Rest, and The Unexpected Guests, curated by Longhi herself. Opening later today at Bechtler Stiftung, this exhibition showcases a carefully selected group of works from the private collections of the Bechtler family alongside contemporary Swiss artists. It invites visitors to explore the intricate relationships between collectors and their collected artworks, revealing the stories embedded in the history of collecting.
Longhi allows us to see the exhibition through her eye—specifically, through a camera lens. The camera lens is a recurring tool and motif in her work. Her artistic strategies generally examine infrastructure, mimicry, and consumer culture, reflecting her interest in display, repetition, and desire. This exploration is clearly reflected in her exclusive edition of 15 with the title Say It With Flowers (2024), which features camellia flower sculptures, each containing a replica camera. These sculptures serve not only as artistic wearable brooch pieces but also as tools that invite us to reconsider the boundaries of privacy, showmanship, and public appearance. They are available in the museum shop while the exhibition is running.
