Dear _____,

Artist Buck Ellison’s images appear to mildly reproduce the habits and tastes of comfortable, white, upper middle class families: organic vegetables, wellness therapies, performance sportswear, and so on. Lurking beneath this initial reading, however, is a deep network of inquiry into how whiteness and privilege are sustained and broadcast, whether through what you put in your body, the bumper sticker on your car, which health problems you can afford to worry about, or the quality of the air you breathe.

Recently, he has ventured into commercial work, shooting campaigns for Dior under the creative direction of Jonathan Anderson. There is much to be said about the recurring overlaps between art and fashion, something we will explore again in depth soon.

For now, enjoy a selection of close ups from Buck’s earlier work, which we published in our printed magazine many years ago.

Ahead of the curve,
PROVENCE
